Paulo Parente Marques Mendes is a managing partner at Di Blasi, Parente & Associados, an attorney at law and IP agent, and he has been practising for nearly 30 years.
He graduated from the Candido Mendes School of Law in Brazil, holds an MBA in sports administration from the Brazilian School of Public Administration at the Getulio Vargas Foundation and recently achieved certification in conflict mediation from Mediare Technical.
His IP practice includes both national and international cases involving trademarks, patents, designs, and copyright. He also advises and assists clients on issues relating to copyright, trademarks, image rights, entertainment, media, sports, competition and consumer rights.
He is currently an Advisor and the Chairman of the Industrial Property and Anti-counterfeiting Committee (CPIP) of the OAB-RJ. He is also a Board Member of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association (ABPI). Mr. Parente is also the Chairman of the national group of the Ligue Internationale du Droit de la Concurrence (LIDC) and Delegate of the National Group of Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and serves on the ADR Committee of the International Trademark Association – INTA.
He is the author and co-author of several books and articles on intellectual property and is a guest speaker at national and international congresses on the subject.
He wrote the chapter “The use of geographical indications as an instrument of protection and development of the Brazilian agriculture” in Propriedade Intellectual na Agricultura, Forum 2012, and the article “Brazil Moves Fast to Fight Ambush Marketing” featured in World Intellectual Property Review 2010. He co-authored Studies on Combating Piracy in Honour of Judge Luiz Fernando Gama Pellegrini (first edition), Letras Jurídicas 2011; Industrial Property, Trademarks, Patents, Design Systems and Technology Transfer (third edition), Forense 2010; and Major Current Topics: Intellectual Property, Technological Innovation and Bioenergy, Pontificia Universidade Catolica, Brazil 2009. He co-authored the guide How to Understand Entertainment and Sports Law in Brazil in 2010 and 2011.
Mr. Parente speaks Portuguese, French, English and Spanish.
